Californian Girl, originally from Iran, born in San Francisco, and based in Geneva, Switzerland, Laila Moshiri, aka Laila, is one of latest iconic female DJ’s of her region. Her music will float into your ears, make it through your blood cells and make you dance, while making you dream at the same time. Her sets are not only about playing a beautiful blend of House and Techno, they are mainly telling a story, which will surely stay with you at the end of the night.

In her hometown, Laila is known for her infinite passion for music as much as she is known for bringing people together.

Her passion for music started at a very young age, as both her parents studied at Berkeley University, California, and both had a passion for music and parties. From her father, Laila inherited the sounds and LP’s of Crosby Still Nash & Young, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and Enigma. From her mother, she inherited the disco grooves of Donna Summer, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson.

The first price Laila ever won in her life, at the age of 6, was a red Sony double tapper. Since that moment, she started recording mixes from the radio, locked up in her room for hours.

At her young age, she was a major fan of The Cure and Madonna, and then she moved from the Pop Culture of her times to the New Waves sounds of Depeche Mode, Bjork and Level 42. Her initial DJ name, Laila M, was actually a reference and praise to Leila K, rap singer of the 90’s, who sung the very famous song “Open Sesame”.

Following as many artists as possible, going to as many concerts as possible, she developed a very unique musical universe of her own. The first electronic show she ever saw was Laurent Garnier, at the Montreux Jazz Festival, with her father. She was 14 and she instantly felt that the rhythm was going through her blood and making her heart beat faster. She always knew music was her thing but it took her some time to admit that mixing was the major tool of expression for her. Before that, she passed her bar exam in Geneva and became a lawyer before studying Drama, in Paris @ Cours Florent and then in Geneva @ Serge Martin.

Thanks to Luciano, who clearly initiated the desire of being part the electronic world and hired her to take care of Dandy Jack, for the famous Music Label Cadenza, Laila finally entered the Underground World. As Luciano told her, she was part of the family since then.

At first, she started with bookings (Dandy Jack, Ernesto Ferreira, Kenny Larkin) and then moved on to organising parties such as the after hours party of the Cadenza party at 02 in London, at Egg, with Dandy Jack, Reboot, Mayaan Nidam and Alex Picone, before admitting that her dream was to play, like the master, Luciano. At that period, she was also part of the famous Label Ruta 5, held by Dandy Jack.

Slowly but surely, and with the full support of her surroundings, she started to play everywhere in Geneva, before winning her residency at the famous club Silencio. She remembers: “playing for the first time in a club, especially @ Silencio and alongside DJ Reas, was more than a dream come true”. Today, her name is on the wall of the smoking room, right under Margaret Dygas’s name.

She stared to become famous with her « Maison Close » and « Disco Volante » parties, renown for bringing people from many different backgrounds together.

Slowly but surely, Laila’s Groovy Tech sound evolved, her technique improved, and her mind opened to new sounds and ideas. Being present in the Swiss Alps, Laila was in charge of helping for the lineups of the famous Le Rouge after ski (Verbier) every winter season. End of December 2014, she was hired by the famous W Hotel in Verbier - while pregnant -, as resident DJ for the winter season. While she was working there, she invited Mirko Loko - Cadenza - Visionquest - to play for Le Rouge and l’Etoile. A few months later, Mirko Loko, based on the introductions made by Laila, launched the famous Polaris Festival, taking place in Verbier every year.

In 2016, Laila played André Lodemann’s opening set - Best Work Records - at Baby Boa (Geneva), and for the first time, she decided to switch from computers to USB keys, with the track called « Leaving the Comfort Zone ». She remembers clearly that moment as a switch in her carrier, her confidence was solid, the club was full and everybody was dancing with their hands up high. Even tough Laila’s musical inspiration is very wide - 60’s to 2021 - her main inspiration comes from the temple of music in Ibiza, DC10, which she considers like Home.

Laila was also part of Weetamix event management, such as, for example, when she was in charge of Damian Lazarus’s booking and his warm up set, alongside La Forêt and Adolpho & Franky, most renown Dj’s of Geneva & Lausanne. The event was an immense success, the music was magical and the vibe was enchanting. Since then, she is also part of the lineups of the one and only Modernity / Caprices Festival, alongside Audio Fly, Apollonia and many others.

Besides that, Laila is proud to be part of the Bordellhouze Parties in Venezia, Italy, events held by Giovanni Favero, a famous local personality and DJ. Many years have passed since the beginning of the Italian adventures and the parties, held for the Redentore, for the Biennale and for the famous Carnival of Venise. Artists such as Damian Lazarus, Reboot, Luca Bacchetti, Cosmokolor, Monkylo, David Hasert & Francesco Mami, Gaby Endo, Cristina Tosio and Reboot have already rocked these parties for the past few years, alongside Laila and Giovanni Favero, aka Energio.

Few years ago, Bordellhouze’s guest of honour for the Carnival’s edition was Damian Lazarus, who luckily came with Guy Laliberté and for 2 years after that, for the Halloween edition, the party was taking place in a Private Mansion in Treviso, with guest stars such as Tomas Melchior (Perlon) and DJ Sossa (Circoloco).

Constantly present in the Swiss music scene, Laila has performed in most famous clubs of Geneva and Lausanne, such as Silencio, Baby Boa, Weetamix, Mambo, Voiles de Genève, Zoé Bar, Rooftop, Lounge 5, Cave Electro, Halles de l’Iles, Le Rouge, l’Etoile, Chez Jean-Luc, Hobo, Café Marmont, Java, Audio, including festivals such as Overground, D Club, Folklor, Caprices Festival.
